Moussaka (moo-sah-KA) is one of my favorite Bulgarian dishes. It's easy to make and all of the ingredients can be found at any grocery store. Here's the recipe:

1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. tomatoes
3 lb. potatoes
1 diced onion
2 chopped carrots

2 eggs
baking soda
1 lg. Dannon plain yogurt
flour
salt and pepper

Brown the ground beef and onion in a frying pan. In a casserole dish, mix together the diced potatoes, chopped tomatoes, carrots, and meat. Bake at 375°. Meanwhile, mix together half of the yogurt, the eggs, a pinch of baking soda, and 1 tbl. spoon flour. Pour over casserole after potatoes begin to soften (about 45 min.) and bake until top browns. Serve with remaining yogurt on the side.
