One of the first things that you notice about Bulgaria is that they use the Cyrillic alphabet (like Russia and several other Slavic countries in Eastern Europe).

At first it may look very intimidating, but because it is a phonetic alphabet, it's way easier to learn how to read than many other languages that use the Latin alphabet. I think you'll agree that it's a very beautiful, unique alphabet.
