1. What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan is a service that provides access to materials not
owned by the David O'McKay Library. Through agreements, participating
libraries share their collections with us. Currently costs for Interlibrary
Loans are covered by the library.
2. Who is elgible to use Interlibrary Loan?
All of BYU Idaho faculty, administrators, staff, students, visiting scholars,
off campus patrons, and some commercial businesses are eligible to request
material through Interlibrary Loan.
3. What types of material can I request?
You can request an article, book, book chapter, report, thesis, standards
document and a conference paper from libraries who participate with us
on ILL. BYU-Provo provides us with materials that they have.
4. What is the first step I need to take in
ordering and item?
First of all, you need to see if BYU-Idaho has the item you need. We
prefer having you check it out from our library if we own it. If pages
are missing, it is at the bindery or not on the shelf, please indicate
that in the notes section as you order the item from Interlibrary Loan.
5. How do I make an Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Request?
Go to http://www.lib.byu.edu/byline/index2.cgi?redirect=ill.html.
Then click on the quick link Interlibrary Loan which will bring up
the Illiad System. If you are a first time user click on register as a
new user and fill in the blanks. If you have any problems with this process
call the Interlibrary Loan Office at 2357. When you are asked for an email
address be sure to put the one that you check frequently because that
is how we let you know the item you ordered has arrived. If your email
address changes be sure to update it on Illiad. Please keep the information
on Illiad current. Update all changes such as address change, phone number
change, name change, etc.
The next time you order an item you go in as a registered user.
6. How can I check on the status of my request?
Contact us at the Interlibrary Loan Office McKay 164, call at 2357, or
by email ill@byui.edu.
7. How long will it take for my request to arrive?
Loans: Most items take an average of 10 days to arrive. Items that have
to be requested from other states can take longer.
Articles: Articles from BYU-Provo take an average of 4 days. Articles
from other libraries can take 10 days or longer.
8. What if I need a Renewal?
At this time our policy is no renewals.
9. What if the item is overdue?
You are responsible for the return of the material by the due date. To
remain in good standing with the lending library they expect the book
back on the due date that they set. So please help us remain in good standing
by returning the item on the date it is due.
10. How will my articles/book be delivered?
Loans: You will be notified by email when items arrive. To receive an
e-mail notification, be sure your current e-mail is on your Illiad registration
record. Pick up your items from the Interlibrary Loan Office, McKay 164
between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m. check at the Circulation
Desk in the East Wing by the Interlibrary Loan Office to pick up your
items.
Article Requests: Pick up articles from the Interlibrary Loan Office
as described above.
11. What is document delivery?
This is a service provided for the faculty and administrators at BYU-Idaho.
When an item arrives for you at Interlibrary Loan you are sent an email
so that if you are passing by the Interlibrary Loan Office in McKay 164
you can pick it up. Otherwise we deliver it to your mail box on campus.
When you are returning an item and need to have it picked up please leave
it in your mail box and notify us by phone 2357 or email (ill@byui.edu)
that it needs to be picked up.
This service is also provided for the faculty and adminstrators if they
need to have an item from the McKay Library delivered. Please call our
office 2357 (not the circulation desk) if you need to have something delivered.
